In the heart of South Korea, a remarkable story unfolds, a tale of passion, dedication, and the unyielding spirit of one woman determined to make a difference. Robin Lucas, President of Rebel Rescue, shares her journey from Texas to South Korea, where she found her calling amidst the challenges of a global pandemic.
The Beginning
Robin’s journey began with a simple act of kindness, adopting a Korean Jindo mix named Lula. This decision led her to a local shelter, where she discovered a world in need of compassion and care. “I started volunteering almost every day,” Robin recalls, “and just fell in love with the shelter, the dogs, and dog rescue.”
A New Chapter
When the shelter’s elderly owner, affectionately known as Granny, passed away, Robin stepped up to transform the shelter into a nonprofit organization. “I realized this was my passion,” she says, “to help these dogs.” With a robust team of Korean volunteers and military spouses, Rebel Rescue thrives, providing a haven for dogs in need.
Challenges and Triumphs
Running a shelter from afar is no small feat, but Robin’s dedication knows no bounds. “I handle as much of the admin stuff as I can,” she explains, “and I go back to Korea three or four times a year.” Her efforts have not gone unnoticed, as the shelter continues to grow, with dogs finding homes across the globe.
Robin’s story is a testament to the power of love and determination. As she continues to bridge the gap between cultures and communities, her work inspires others to join the cause. “COVID changed my life,” Robin reflects, “I found what I was meant to do.” Subscribe now to follow Robin’s journey and support the incredible work of Rebel Rescue.
