Puppy Schedule: Eight Weeks to Four Months

Starting your puppy off right inclusions setting up a proper schedule and a reliable routine.

Feed three times a day unless your vet specifies otherwise–and remember; NO TREATS OR TABLE SCRAPS.

7:00 am–Take the puppy immediately to the area designated for elimination. Be sure to cover the entire area with paper. Leave a portion of soiled paper under your new paper so your puppy will pick up the scent. If the pup relieves himself, praise him lavishly. Walk him a few minutes more and then allow him to come in and socialize while you have breakfast and prepare for your day. If he doesn’t relieve himself, return him to his crate with his breakfast and water. After 15 minutes, take him back to the designated area.

7:30 am–Feed the pup his breakfast and water in his crate.

7:45 am-Pick up the food and water bowls and take the pup to the designated area.

8:00 am–Take the pup for a walk then return him to the crate when he can no longer be supervised.

12:00 pm–Immediately take the pup to the yard or to the papers. If he relieves himself, praise him lavishly. Walk him for a few minutes more, then allow him to socialize with you while you have lunch. If the pup refuses to go, return him to his crate with his lunch. After 15 minutes, immediately take him to the designated area.  Take your puppy to the paper immediately after feeding, give the housebreaking command. Throw a party for the pup if you get results.

12:30 pm–Feed the puppy his lunch and water inside the crate.

12:45 pm-Pick up the food and water bowls and take the pup to the yard or to the papers. Then walk or socialize the pup until he can no longer be supervised and then return him to his crate.

5:00 pm –Immediately take the dog to the designated area. If the pup relieves himself, praise him lavishly. Then socialize with the pup while he can be supervised.

“Learning the value of silence is learning to listen to, instead of screaming at, reality: opening your mind enough to find what the end of someone else’s sentence sounds like, or listening to a dog until you discover what is needed instead of imposing yourself in the name of training.”
Monks of New Skete, The Art of Raising a Puppy

6:00 pm–Feed the puppy his dinner and water inside the crate.

6:15 pm–Pick up the food and water bowls and immediately take the pup to the designated area. Then socialize and walk the pup. When he can no longer be supervised, return him to his crate.

8:00 pm–Take the pup to the designated area and then give him the last water for the day (no food). Take the pup to the designated area again. Walk and socialize the pup.

11:00 pm–Take the pup to the designated area. Walk the dog briefly then crate him for the night.
