Meet the Trainers: Robert Forto

Robert Forto Alaska Dog WorksRobert has been training dogs since 1994. He was enrolled in a Pre-Vet program in college and learned one summer that he didn’t want to be in an clinic all day. He wanted to be outdoors with sled dogs and working with canines any way he could.

He started his training business teaching clients in the parks in and around Portland, Oregon teaching them a hybrid program of basic obedience and the AKC Canine Good Citizen program.

Over the years Robert went to various training schools and academies to learn everything he could about canine training, behavior, small business management and more. He has also attended Canine Communication Studies in Ontario, Canada and developed a service dog training program that was used in a correctional setting working with Canine Companions for Independence.

Robert hosts the popular Dog Works Radio podcast with his wife and business partner, Michele as well as popular podcasts about mushing and dog sports.

Robert has been the recipient of many awards including: fear rehabilitation, best new dog training business, canine aggression, innovation awards and more.
